Excel 2007

Excel 2007 instruction Booklet

Our experience teaching Excel shows us that students find this difficult to understand due to its strong mathematical nature. One way to overcome this is to make the learning tasks more interesting by using different topics that students understand.
The main booklet and videos run through the features of the program in the normal way where students can look at the index and decide what feature they need to learn.

Bonus worksheets

Along with the main booklet and videos there is a good selection of standalone worksheets for students to work through in lesson or as homework tasks.

  • Lecture theatre – student sets up four blocks of seats at different prices. As a seat is booked, it changes colour with conditional formatting. The income from the seats is automatically added up.
  • Paving calculator – a simple 2 column calculator works out how much to charge for laying paving depending on the size of area against a set figure using absolute referencing and a named cell.
  • VLOOKUP Function 1 – you set up a simple sheet that places a description against a grade depending on the grade typed in. named ranges are used.
  • VLOOKUP Function 2 – use the VLookup to automatically fill in the customer address depending on the customer number typed in.
  • Adding Controls 1 – two option buttons are placed within a group box. Check boxes are also used. An IF statement is then written that brings a statement back depending on whether the check box is selected or not.
  • Adding Controls 2 – spin buttons, scroll bars, combo box and list box is explained.
  • Computer Sales Invoice – a simple invoice is set up using combo boxes, named ranges, VLOOKUPS, spinner buttons, check boxes and formulas that transfer data from one sheet to another automatically.
  • Spreadsheet Tasks – a selection of tasks that can be given to the student to work through in lesson or at home – planning a party, calculations and formulas, analysing football results and sorting using a button.
