GCSE Web site & Eportfolios in Dreamweaver 8

Dreamweaver 8

Web design might have been the main reason to use Dreamweaver a few years ago but many students now need to produce Eportfolios and eBooks rather than simply how to build a website. These Dreamweaver tutorials walk the student through the process using either the 51 page booklet or the 37 video tutorials. They may be producing their GCSE ICT coursework wholly in lesson or at home. These teaching resources can be given to all students in your class for just one great price.

The "Getting Started" booklet and videos gave students a good start in using Dreamweaver for producing a simple web site or presentation using tables & layers.

Many GCSE and GCE courses now require E-Books and Eporfolios. This requires a higher level of skills which this series is designed for. The booklet again follows the standard step by step approach with screen captures showing every step.

This booklet has been produced to be used in the first few weeks of a unit of work. Students work through the booklet and videos and build the example shown and at the same time they are building their own site.

This 51 page booklet and videos takes the student up a level as we look at how a site is designed and produced using the layout technique. Again, the student is walked through the design process with lots of simple theory explanations as we get to the point where decisions need to be made.

  • Templates are explained and used to automate the whole process.
  • They draw the cells / regions using layout mode which is much more stable than tables.
  • Movies and swf files are added.
  • A navigation system is used using flash buttons and text.
  • A second navigation bar is shown in the videos where the buttons are produced in Fireworks - similar to the ones on this site.
  • Layers are used and set up so that they scroll as data is added.
  • CSS is also used to show how this can be used to our advantage.

Many students both GCSE and GCE have used these resources and learnt Dreamweaver in only a few lessons. They then use the booklet as a reminder as they build their own site. Many then ask to see the advanced booklet and videos as they become more interested in the software.
